When you have a soft spot for Japan as much as I do, being mentally teleported back to Japan just by smelling something extraordinary brings a huge smile to my face. During a recent mini perfume tour at Perfume Lounge, I was introduced to Parfum Satori. The brand has been around since 2000 and was founded by Satori Owasa whose background in scent goes back to 1988. Next to being the nose behind her fragrances, making perfumes that represent Japanese culture, she also teaches and gives lectures, among others, passing her experience and wisdom to the next generation of perfumers.
Parfum Satori are beautiful Japanese sceneries bottled into treasured fragrances. I fell in love with the perfume Wasanbon that was launched in 2013 instantly during the private perfume tour. Wasanbon is a kind of traditional Japanese sugar that has a history of over 200 years, considered the “upper class” of sugar in Japan and mainly used in making Japanese sweets such as the ones I had the privilege to taste (hidden in the wooden box) during my honeymoon stay at the Andaz Tokyo penthouse suite sipping matcha tea and overlooking the Tokyo tower.
Wasanbon melts in the mouth with a sweetness one could call elegant. I remember it had a full and rich taste, but not too sweet making it quite addictive, just like the perfume. The perfume contains Lemon, Muscat, Mimosa, Lily of the valley, Almond, Sugar, Honey, Vanilla, Iris, and Guaiacwood. Naturally, you’ll smell the ingredients gradually as they develop on your skin. This could be your new best friend. A truly sophisticated pick me up without the hip-hugging calories. (50ML | €179)
