The ’90s changed perfume forever. In 1992, my favorite Angel by Mugler challenged convention with an unexpected combination of edible sweetness and earthy patchouli, helping establish gourmand as a major fragrance family.
La Favorite takes a different route, but has a similar appetite for character. This floral amber fragrance brings together queen of the night, benzoin and tonka bean. For me, the benzoin is where it gets interesting. It’s warm, resinous and softly sweet and gives the fragrance its depth, while tonka bean adds a creamy sensuality. Queen of the night brings a little lightness to the composition.
Subtle? Well, that’s not really the point because La Favorite has personality. It leaves a trail, and refreshingly, doesn’t seem particularly interested in asking permission. Very Gaultier. (50 ml | € 147)
