Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses at Kunstmuseum Rotterdam

From Paris to Singapore, Iris van Herpen’s visionary creations have mesmerised audiences around the globe. Now, her groundbreaking couture is coming closer to home: from 27 September, Kunsthal Rotterdam will host a breathtaking retrospective dedicated to one of the most avant-garde designers of our time.

Sculpting the Senses is a celebration of Van Herpen’s multidisciplinary universe, where fashion seamlessly merges with contemporary art, science, technology, and design. The exhibition – created in collaboration with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and Maison Iris van Herpen – brings together over a hundred iconic pieces that redefine the very essence of haute couture.

Kunsthal’s general director Marianne Splint describes Van Herpen’s approach as “poetic and uncompromising,” noting that her garments transcend clothing to become artworks in their own right. Expect immersive, atmospheric spaces where couture meets imagination, surrounded by the inspirations and visual artistry that fuel Van Herpen’s boundary-pushing vision.

As a special highlight, on Saturday 27 September, acclaimed fashion journalist Dana Thomas will host an Artist Talk with Iris van Herpen herself, diving into her craftsmanship and sources of inspiration. Tickets for this unique conversation will be available HERE  from Tuesday 2 September at 10:00.

This exhibition promises to be more than a retrospective, it’s an invitation into the extraordinary world of Iris van Herpen, where the future of fashion takes sculptural form. Sculpting the Senses is not just an exhibition it’s a glimpse into the future of couture.
