When Culture Becomes Scent with d’Annam Perfumes

I’m always drawn to perfumes that do more than smell good. The ones that tell you something. With d’Annam, fragrance becomes a translation of daily life. Founded in Vietnam in 2023, the house works through storytelling: each collection a chapter, each scent rooted in lived experience rather than abstract concepts.

Every perfume begins with cultural research and collaboration with local artists and creatives, created from within the culture, not interpreted from the outside. The result is fragrance that feels intimate, calm, and intentional.

My personal favourites are Vietnamese Coffee, that captures the warmth of roasted Robusta beans and condensed milk. It’s smells familiar, comforting, and quietly addictive. Matcha Soft Serve balances green matcha with creamy notes, light and playful without losing depth. And Strawberry Mochi brings softness and sweetness together in a way that feels joyful rather than juvenile.

These are not loud perfumes. Scents that slow you down, linger close to the skin, and offer pleasure without excess. It’s no surprise that Vietnamese Coffee and Matcha Soft Serve were nominated for the Art and Olfaction Awards. d’Annam proves that when fragrance is rooted in culture, it doesn’t need to shout.
